What I’ve Learned From Travel

I spent last week in India, and it was amazing. I have been fortunate to get the opportunity to travel all over the world for my job, and though most of us had a hiatus over the past two and a half years, travel is back!* I’ve visited a lot of countries and met people from even more. I’ve experienced many cultures, customs, and traditions.

Before I had the opportunity to travel, most of my knowledge of the world came from the news, movies, and second-hand opinions from people who have never traveled further than their uncles farm in Oklahoma. I heard about poverty, war, political tension, and social stress. These sources shaped my view of the world, and it seemed like a terrifying place. While those things do exist more than they should, travel has changed my perspective tremendously! Here’s what I’ve learned:

People are simultaneously different and the same

Sure there are cultural differences and varying customs that make us unique, and that’s a beautiful thing, but even with those differences, we’re all much more alike than we are different. We all want to be happy and get the most out of life. We have the same emotions and desires. We experience joy and sadness, tears and laughter. We all have struggles and triumphs. We want to be…
